Let's take a look at the open-air museum in Ballenberg, Switzerland. This time we don't have a residential building in the photo, but an economic building, specifically a Brienzwiler kiln and oven. This building remained almost in its original place. The oven and the dryer were part of a residential building, but it was better to build it separately for safety reasons. The building is from the 18th century. Note, for example, that the shingle roof protrudes over the front of the furnace building. This is to keep the stove operator dry even in bad weather. The waste heat from the furnace was used for drying apples and pears.
