Red roofs of the Slovenian town, sun-drenched, with the blue of the Adriatic Sea in the distance, are confusingly similar to such a view of the famous Dubrovnik. And yet, we are far removed about 700 km from the Pearls of Dalmatia. What the two places have in common? Certainly the story - for nearly 500 years the two were part of the Republic of Venice, which had a decisive influence on the shape of both these cities.

According to the shaping of the peninsula, which is the city: the southern part of the port goes down flat, and the deeper we enter between the buildings, the higher you climb. The streets are getting narrower. There is no longer any question of traffic.

Eventually it gets so narrow that you can pull your arms to reach the buildings standing on opposite sides of the street. So narrow buildings gives what the hot Mediterranean summer is the most desirable: shade and coolness. Moving between buildings can literally look at people in the window. And this is a very good opportunity to get to know a little bit closer to their daily lives.

After climbing through the narrow streets to reach the highest point of the peninsula: the steep northern slope. There is, albescent in the sun, the Church of St. George with a distinctive bell tower. It is open to the public. From the tower, but also from its base offering a vast panorama of the city on (surrounded on three sides by the Adriatic) characteristic peninsula. And on the horizon the Italian coast.

Here we can see (how different from the south) the northern coast of the peninsula. I only "see", as several dozen are on a slope, enhanced defensive wall and the seashore is not available .

But we got even higher, to the steep hills of the city, where the view is simply fantastic, especially in light of the end of the day.

And then I suggest you go back to the Tartini Square and enjoy a good cup of coffee in one of the surrounding cafes. Or cool off with delicious ice cream at one of the bakery. And the best, and the one and the other ;-)
