Photographer's Note

The poncha is the most traditional drink of the island Madeira! though appreciated and consumed throughout the island, is a typical drink of the county Board of Lobos. In its primitive form was made with brandy cane sugar, equal portion of water, sugar and lemon peel, but in recent times has undergone some changes. Although currently it is more often prepared with brandy cane sugar, honey and lemon juice, other forms are being adopted, some by substituting honey or orange juice, passion fruit and sugar cane liquor or whiskey by Absinthe
Picture taken at the tavern of poncha in Serra de αgua, rather than mandatory stop when we go south of the island to the north.
