Photographer's Note

North Coast of St. Miguel Island (Azores). St. Miguel is the biggest of 9 islands of Azores. It has grossly the shape of a rectangle with the longest sides facing North and South. This Island has 759 km2 of area, 65 kms of length and 14 kms of width. The climate is temperate and humid with median temperatures of 21 degrees C in Summer and 14 degrees C in Winter. Rains are frequent, even in Summer, contributing for exuberant vegetation over all the island, also known as the Green Island. Hydrangeas and many other flowers are everywhere. Pineapples, tea and tobacco are grown in the island. In this island, there is the only tea factory existing in Europe. A lot of lakes can be seen in this island, the most famous being Seven Cities Lagoon, Fogo Lagoon and Furnas Lagoon. The present picture depicts a place known as "Ponta Formosa" (Beautiful Cape).
