Photographer's Note

This large baroque monument stands in front of the unique two-storey St. Bartholomew and Holy Cross Church, on the Cathedral Island in Wroclaw. I saw several monuments of St. John of Nepomuk before in Hungary and Austria, but never a large one like this. (Some sources call it the largest of the world). It was made in 1732 by Jan Jiři Urbansky and depicts St. John as usual with stars above his head and dresses as priest. He is a martyr of the Seal of the Confessional, he was drowned in 1339 on the order of the the King of Bohemia. I put pictures into the Workshop to show the details of the statue on the top and the relief sculpture on the base which shows him as being dropped into the river from the Charles bridge in Prague.
