Some days ago I saw a picture from Clochette including a millstone. So to add a little more about millstones I present to day a little picture collection from a millstone park in Norway. Our local word for millstone is: Kvernstein.

The tradition for producing millstones at this place goes more than a 1000 years back in time. The millstones was exported all over Europe and also to many islands in the west of Norway. This is what you find in this little picture collection:

Pic. 1: The mountain “Lihesten” is a “landmark” to be found when you turn into the land from the Sognefjord – of many called: “The Queen” of the Norwegian fjords.

Pic. 2: A bit north of the fjord the community: Hyllestad have made a millstone park in a beautiful landscape, as you can see from this picture with the little creek.

Pic. 3: You can still see “tracks” of where and how the production took place. It was a lot of manual work involved with carving out the stones.

Pic. 4: Some remains of stones where the production failed.

These pictures is from a 3 days trip I had in 2002 to the outer part of the Sognefjord, as this thin populated area is a part of our country that I had not been visiting before. I have some more pictures from this trip to be posted at a later time.

As for this way to display 4 photos at once as a “theme”, I am not sure how it will be accepted as a use of panorama pictures.
I had the idea after seeing “ilouys” picture “Skins of trees”.
