Summer in Haarlem

After Winter in Amsterdam, here's Summer in Haarlem.
This is a picture from the centre of my hometown Haarlem, it is a view of the main square in Haarlem, de Grote Markt (Big Market Square) two days ago, when it was a real summer day.

The building at the other side of the square is the city hall of Haarlem. The oldest part of the building is, if I'm not mistaken from the 14th century.
Before the City Hall was built, there was a building of the Counts of Holland (here is meant the county of Holland, which contained the present provinces Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland). The main hall in the city hall is therefore called de Gravenzaal (Counts Hall).

The buildings on the right are some cafes and a cinema, the statue in front is Laurens Janszoon Coster (1370-1440?). He claimed to be the inventor of the typography, but the real inventor is the German Johann Gutenberg. But Coster got in the 19th century nevertheless his statue.
Other buildings on de Grote Markt are de Vleeshal and de Grote of Sint Bavokerk, you can see both buildings in this picture.

Oh yes and that booth in the middle of the square sells "poffertjes", some kind of tiny pancakes, they are eaten with butter and powdered sugar. I don't think it's very known outside Holland.
Well, now I've told you something about Dutch food as well! :-)

Hope you like this summer shot from my home- and birth town!
