Photographer's Note

This is a so called 'wipmill'; a wooden windmill built in the 17th century. The purpose of the mill is to pump water out of the canals in the lower grasslands into a higher canal. The complete top of the mill can be turned in the direction of the wind.
This windmill is located in Zoeterwoude, close to Leiden. In this area, there are more of those windmills, many in excellent condition. On a windy Saturday several can be seen with turning blades.
