Photographer's Note

The neigbourhood called 'Jordaan' on the west side of the centre, just outside the canal area, is known to be the most authentic part of town and is considered by its inhabitants as 'the real Amsterdam'.
It was here that in the 50's of the 20th century a cult started of singers that sung about the neigbourhood in a way7 that you can compare with the fado in Lissabon.
The area was the poor mans area in the 17th century, the golden age of Holland but is now a place where the common man is repaced more and more by people with money.
