Photographer's Note

Dear friends,

Today I have a double "TE anniversary". Today is exactly half a year since I registered on this site... and today I upload my 100th picture! It is needless to say that TE is the greatest photosite I have ever encountered on the net, because you all know it. Through daily browsing the gallery, critiquing the photos and reading the critiques of others, I have learned an immense amount, and still I feel myself more or less the same beginner as I was half a year ago. I don't think I have become a better photographer; one needs a lot of practice to achieve this goal, and I don't have much time for that currently, although I am trying hard. But what I definitely have learned is to see things better, and for me this is one of the most important consequences of being here.

For my 100th upload I have chosen a subject which won't come as a surprise for most of you, as it pretty much summarizes my TE gallery. Indeed, the vast majority of my posted pictures are, in one way or another, connected with architecture. This is because most of my posts so far date from my pre-TE period, and architecture was always my favourite subject. No doubt, TE has changed my preferences, and currently I am trying new stuff, but today - a classic "pasternak's post" :)) It shows the Eastern Gate (Oostpoort) in the old historic town of Delft, the Netherlands. It was built around 1400 and is the only gate remaining in Delft, after all others were demolished in the nineteenth century. As you may see, the gatekeeper's house, built over the canal, is still inhabited, so people live literally "on the water". I have made the shot in the evening so that the direct low light would highlight the textures of old walls. I also have framed the picture to include a tree in order to have some "life" in the shot.

And... there is still something else in the picture:) If you have read my title and are wondering where am I - look in the lower left corner;)

Thank you all. I am learning from you.
