Suburban frontier
Holland is a densely populated country with cities that are expanding all the time, to the detriment of the open countryside or the city’s own green spaces.
Displayed here is the southern border of the agglomeration Rotterdam. The “Carnisselande” suburbanization can’t advance further because of the river de Oude Maas 200 m away.
This ‘ultimate’ frontier is carefully landscaped with an artificial lake and housing that has borrowed some stylistic elements waterfront housing in Denmark and Scandinavia.

On the map you can see a satalite view of this frontier.

On Flickr is a mini series about this process of (sub)urbanization: here

Well my friends, this is my last upload for some weeks. We will be leaving soon for the summer holidays. Our first destination will be the Architecture Trienale in Lisboa and after that we’ll travel to our hide out in Santa Luzia. I’ll miss you and wish you a fine start of the summer. And take care.

PCS3 tech: cropped, altered the saturation, contrast, curves and levels for the whole pic and some elements separately, enhanced edges, USM-ed, added a frame and resized and USM-ed again.
