A quiet corner in Giethoorn (sort of)...

GIETHOORN is a village in northern Overijssel which is very popular with Asian tourists who love to go boatriding (often quite clumsily) through the canals in this little "Venice of the North".
Giethoorn recently featured in Grand Hotel Europa, a brilliant novel by Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer, so we wanted to see it for real, making us yet a somewhat different kind of tourist there. Yet, it is kind of ironic, of course, since the novel is about (the downsides of) tourism, to begin with.
THIS PICTURE shows a crossroads of canals (?) just outside of the village proper, shot during our walk to the centre.
There is a samall family of (Dutch) tourists in that little boat there. There were figuring out how to steer it in the right direction by means of trial and error. Their yells and cries disrupted the serenity of the scene, but were quite funny in a way.

Hello Benny,
There is fine depth in the photo, and maybe the canal is also deep. I like the contrasts between the brightly lit green grass and the very dark water. The boat with the inexperienced Dutch family is of course a good complement to the view.

Lovely scenic landscape of an extensive flatland sweeping the eye all the way to the horizon! The boat is in a perfect position breaking the stillness and gorgeous water reflections to compliment that pretty sky !!

This is a fine view up the canal; the open f/g seems to draw us in like a funnel
The trees are well positioned, acting to separate the boat and the red topped post, opposing each other.
It's a lovely day, greens and blues predominating in this bucolic scene.
