Photographer's Note

This photo was taken in Marsalforn village, in Gozo island. My plan was to spent there 1 day, but I had to come back there the next day, because after a really bad storm there was no light for pictures for the rest of the day. On this photo you can actually see the clouds few minutes before the storm.

Marsalforn is a fishing village on the north coast of Gozo, which has developed into Gozo's most popular sea resort. Its small size means that everywhere is within walking distance, and can be very tranquil in the off-peak seasons.

The name of this village bears its value as a seaport- "Marsa" means `port` or `bay` while forn derived from lifurna, an Arabic word for `ship`. A grand open view of Marsalforn area is viewable from the top of il-merzuq.
To the south of Marsalforn is a fertile valley named after the village. The valley is bounded by several hillocks. The most famous of these is tas-Salvatur (Our Saviours Hill). This volcano like hill has acquired the attention of the people since 1901, when a large wooden cross was erected on its peak. Three years later, when Gozo was consecrated to Christ the Saviour, a stone statue of Christ replaced the cross. This was in turn replaced by a gigantic concrete statue towering twelve meteres above the hill, which remains to this day. You can't see it on this photo, but it was right behind me when I was taking this one. Unfortunately I had only few minutes to take photos on that day, bacause few minutes later I couldn't even stick my nose out of the car.

I would highly recommend spending some time on Gozo, while visiting Malta. Plenty to see and enjoy.
