The art of ceramics is one of the oldest arts of man. In fact, the discovery of kneading the clay with water and subjecting it to cooking, seems to have occurred in the East between the end of the 6th and the beginning of the 5th millennium BC. also in our Sicilian reality we can affirm that the art of ceramics is the most illustrious and the oldest.

Ceramic is known in Sicily since prehistory. Sicily cradle of the Mediterranean civilization, of culture and art, collects innumerable testimonies from the time of ceramics.

Ceramic appears for the first time in Sicily in the Neolithic (meaning "age of new stone")

Some findings such as vases, large amphorae in the shape of an hourglass, fruit bowls and jars, are testimony to the first human settlements in Noto, Milazzo, Catania and Palermo. Other findings have occurred in the Aeolian Islands and Pallenteria.

Among the most important production centers and ceramics schools in Sicily, different styles, designs and colors, we must remember Santo Stefano di Camastra, Caltagirone and Sciacca.
