View on Garavogue River that flows through the city of Sligo and then to Sligo Bay. A very nice walk has been laid out along the river in the centre of the city. From it, you can observe the inhabitants of the river : swans and ducks ! Sligo is the capital of county Sligo and the second biggest city of Connaught, with about 20 000 inhabitants. Its gaelic name Sligeach means "shelly place", due to the aboundance of shellfish in the river Garravogue and in Sligo Bay. The town is dominated by Ben Bulben on north and Knocknarea mountain on south. As a human scale city, an animated city with a lot of good pubs, Sligo is a good base to visit county Sligo.
