Photographer's Note
Hi all,
it has been more than a long while since I last uploaded my work here on TE.
We spent Easter weekend in Co. Donegal, near Dunbeg. It's place with many stunning views - high mountains, deep valleys, long beaches and steep clifs.
This shot was taken from the top of Horn Head pointing south. The contrast difference was good 6 stops so I used combination of 0.6 hard edge grad and 0.45 hard edge to keep the sky reasonable whilst keeping maximum details on the cliffs. CPL was also used to get rid of reflection on water surface. Last but not least, sturdy tripod was a must, it was quite blowy on the summit.
Regarding PP, I enhanced blacks to bring more contrast into the scene and blue color was saturated a step.
In the curent environment when HDR is becoming a favorite techinque for many good photographers, in this shot I wanted to demonstrate that "good" shots are possible without excessive manipulation.
Kind regards,
Viktor

hello Viktor,
I must admit you have done very well! It looks a bit like a HDR photo but not as much as most of the photographs. They are usually oversatured and look like a painting! Your photo is still really natural with good beautiful colors, good contrast and crispy details. Excellent work here. I like it a lot.
warm regards

Hi Viktor, very nice compisition and sharpness, I feel it has a slight bluish tinge, or is it just the filter effect? TFS,Manoj

Hello Viktor,
Wild, but great looking coast and you made a very good job with your photo. Very nice dark colors and you explained how you did it, which is a good lesson for many of us.
Thanks!

Hello Victor,
A wonderful view, well composed and brought in unusual dark colours. Great clarity also and I join you in preferring a prudent approach to photo manipulation.

Hi Viktor:
It certainly is possible to get a good shot without HDR, and I'm glad you've done so here. I think HDR has its place, but for too many photographers it replaces a focus on getting the shot right in the first place. If you take away that challenge, you destroy the art somewhat, in my opinion. Kind of like going hunting with a machine gun from a helicopter or something--it may be effective, but it destroys the art because it doesn't require much skill. :)
Anyway, enough of that. This is overall a pretty well-exposed shot, in spite of the blown-out clouds in the distance. But hey, what can you do. You did a great job overall. I wasn't sure whether to go here in a couple weeks when I'm in Ireland, but now I think I will, actually. Thanks for sharing!
Clark
P.S. Any other recommendations in County Donegal? I've got a day there, so I was planning on Slieve League (and now Horn Head), Dunlewy and the Poison Glen, Glenveagh National Park, and possibly Fanad Head. A full day, I know, but I only get one crack at these. Any ideas you have would be great.
