Budapest consists of two main cities, Buda and Pest, that were unified relatively recently in 1873. Split by the Great Danube, the Western Buda is hilly and holds the Buda Royal Palace, the citadel and St Matthias Church. This photograph was taken from the bank of the flatter Pest, which is more metropolitan.

In the foreground of the picture, the tramline that travels the length of the riverbank can be seen - as you can see from this photograph, this is a sight-filled and beautiful journey to take at any point of the day.

On the left, the Buda Royal Palace can be seen. It is seeped in the history of various occupations, from the 150 year occupation of the Turks in the 16th & 17th centuries to the history that came with the occupation of Hungary by first the Nazis and then Soviet Russia. On the right, St Matthias Church can be seen.
