raditional route-Agios Lavrentios-Mounth Pelion
The picturesque Music Village of Agios Lavrentios, Pelion is located just 19 km away from the city of Volos at an altitude of 600m. This small mountainous village seems untouched by time as it preservers it’s unspoiled traditional character. The ancient houses made of giant stones, the cobblestone slippery streets are such a beautiful detail, added to this natural world opened touristic attractiSeveral kilometers away from the coast line of the Pagasitikos Gulf, at the bottom of the ravine of Vrichonas, surrounded by the dense vegetation of the south side of the ravine, is located the beautiful historical village of Agios Lavrentios.

As it is obvious by the village’s name, the core of its development was the Monastery of Agios Lavrentios, founded there by Saint Lavrentios in 1378. At the same place, prior to this Monastery, there was another one of the 12th. century, built by Amalfitan monks. They belonged in the Order of Saint Benedict, from Amalfi of Italy, and they were paradoxically orthodox.

The first residents of the village Agios Lavrentios, as it was the case in many other Pelion villages, were people who came to work in the Monastery’s fields. It did not take long for a relative prosperity to be developed, since the cultivation of olives, grapevines and fruits proved to be very productive.
