Photographer's Note

Early Afternoon in Cologne

One more photo from Germany, although taken on another day, about two months after my previous photo. This one shows the skyline of the centre of Cologne (German: Kln). The photo was taken from the Deutzer Brcke and features Cologne Cathedral and the Great Saint Martin Church. About nine years ago, I posted a photo from a similar POV, yet in completely different weather conditions. Heres what I wrote about the city back then:

Cologne is the fourth biggest city in Germany and the biggest one in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (Nordrhein-Westfalen) with almost one million inhabitants. It's located on the river Rhine (Rhein) and south of the Ruhr Area. Cologne is also one of the oldest cities of the country, founded in 30 BC as a Roman settlement called Colonia Agrippina.
The most famous landmark of the city is the Klner Dom (officially: Hohe Domkirche St. Peter und Maria, English: Cologne Cathedral. A gothic church, which is one of the biggest cathedrals in Europe and the tallest building in the world from 1880 to 1884. The construction started in August 1248 and was first completed 632 years later, in 1880. The two towers are 157,3m high. In 1996, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The other church is the Gro St. Martin Kirche (Great Saint Martin Church).
