The Old Swede

In the UNESCO listed Altstadt (Old Town) of Wismar, the Markplatz (Market Square) is the best known part and particularly the corner Im showing here. The Brick Gothic Brgerhaus (patricians house) in the background of this photo, built in 1380, is one of the most notable buildings in Wismar. It is called the Alter Schwede (the Old Swede, Wismar belonged to Sweden for quite a long time in the past). The building in the foreground is Wasserkunst Wismar, which is a symbol of the town. Its a wrought-iron fountain, built in 1602, imported from Holland.
