Photographer's Note

The village of Pιrouges, located in the Ain county about 30km from Lyon, is an old perfectly preserved medieval city. It was probably founded by the Gauls, and throughout time it was part of France, Savoie or Dauphinι. It grew bigger thanks to the weaving business until the 19th century, when industrialisation made it decline until several associations attempted, at the beginning of the 20th century, to restore its street, buildings and walls, most of which hadn't changed since the Middle-Ages.
It is now a major tourist attraction and was the location for several movies. It is really nice to wander in its centuries-old streets on a sunny day, preferably in the morning before the crowd of tourists comes. Many crafts(wo)men have theirs shops there, so you can find very interesting objects and gifts.

The picture shows a window that is, like many other in the city, accompanied by a tiny door just under it. I still don't know what these miniature doors were meant for, but I guess they were used to give some items (wood, coal, food...) without opening the main door, and maybe directly to the cellar...
