A country road on the outskirts of the village of Saint-Martial-sur-Nι, Charente-Maritime.

Saint-Martial-sur-Nι is a commune in the Charente-Maritime department in the Poitou-Charentes region in south-western France.

With a population of around 350, the village is located 25 kilometres to the north of the sous-prefecture town of Jonzac. The inhabitants are called Saint-Martialais. The altitude of the commune varies between 12 and 68 metres. The Nι river flows near the village.

In 1789 the commune de Saint-Martial-de-Coculet absorbed that of Juillacq le Petit. On 23 November 1937, Saint-Martial-de-Coculet took the name of Saint-Martial-sur-Nι. The word 'coculet' is derived from the Latin 'cocula' which translates as 'cluster of mines'.
