Photographer's Note

The Arenes de Luteces off Rue Monge, near the Jardin des Plantes, is a little surprise. It's the remains, saved and re-fashioned, of a 1st century Roman amphitheatre that when it was first in use could seat 15,000 spectators. It was rediscovered in 1869 during digging to build a street. Boules and football (soccer) are played there today.
