Photographer's Note
Fred and Ginger
Last week I posted two photos of the Stata Center (I and II) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, which was designed by Frank Gehry. Many of you mentioned its similarities to “Fred and Ginger” in Prague, Czechia and even though I post chronologically, as you know, I now add a small (one-photo) break in my USA series, because, as it happens, I am in Prague at the moment and went to see Fred and Ginger yesterday, which makes a good follow-up on my Stata Center photos, even though the light was not ideal.
The Dancing House (Czech: Tančνcν dům), which is its official name, is an office building in the New Town area of Prague. It was designed by Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić and Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry and was completed in 1996. Gehry originally named the building Fred and Ginger, after the famous dancers Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, but apparently this name is rarely used anymore.
So, just one photo from Czechia, after this one I’ll go back to the USA. More photos from Prague will follow later, although they are in a long queue with photos from three other trips I made in the last six months!

Hello Lars, Excellent idea to post a picture of Ginger and Fred to compare easily. Even great artists multiply their successful ideas in many places. The same is with Calatrava, there is a similarity in all his works. Have a great time in Prague! My queue of photos from my previous trips is long and will never be realized, well when I will feel fit enough to travel.
Kind regards MAlgo

Hej Lars,
Hδlsningar,

Hi Lars,
It was a great idea to post this as a comparison to the US building. The weather doesn't look too bad. At last you had a blue sky and no rain, snow or smog. Excellent sharpness and the pedestrians add scale. Tfs!

Hello Lars,
I have to say that I can relate more to this architecture than some of Gehry's work at MIT, but I am only an old fuddy-duddy. Very well captured from this angle. The light may not have been ideal, but your photograph does it full justice.

Dag Lars,

Lars, I recently critiqued this building for another photographer and I just love it! It is a building which appears to have motion as well as infinite style!
You had a lovely day for this photograph, as the surrounding, blue sky, perfectly matches the blues of the building. It is really well colour co-ordinated!
A fine, sharp photograph, as allows.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Lars,
The presence of the persons is animating the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the modern architecture of the buildings. The light is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

Dag Lars,
Heerlijk foto werk, bedankt.

Hi Lars
great to see you made it to Prague! I would suspect its cold there right now? What are the temperatures? any Snow? And of course these dancing couples are a MUST when in Prague, its on every photographers to-shoot-list. Glad you captured them. Do you have blue hour shots of them as well? that's fun too. Good capture in the light, always a pleasure to see this. Looking forward to more. Enjoy the trip. Cheers

lars
it is fact a modern classic of architecture, a famous building, an icon of prague, but I really think isn't a beautiful building, despite being surprising. I guess the right side is interesting and it would be better if the style were the same in the other side. only preferences...
nice view of the bizarre sample of architecture.
take care

Hello Lars,
It's always nice to see Fred and Ginger. :-) This iconic building is instantly recognizable. I wonder if the interiors of Gehry buildings are as interesting as the exteriors. On this design I like how the window panes alternate the placement of the larger pieces. It creates a cool effect.

Hi, Lars.
This building in itself is a spectacle, a game that is so beautiful in its forms, it also harmonizes the two different parts of the building.
Point of view, sharpness, luminosity, color and the composition chosen are excellent.
A very beautiful photo. I like it.
You have a good day.
Best regards.

POV well chosen, Lars, the famous building appear wonderfully with one side under side light and left side under mild shadows.
I had difficult time taking this building photo, as weather was not best and had a small/tiny Nikon.
Superb outcome on photo, my cong.s.

Hallo Lars,
Vele groeten, Paul

Dag Lars Ginger seems to execute the new "floss dance", moving the waist sideways in alternative motion to entice Fred, the more-classic dancer, wearing a funny slouch hat instead of the traditional top hat! I use to comment about the perfect verticality of main subject's lines, but in this case of famous dancing partners....! Impeccable depiction. Heel mooi fotowerk.
Met vrindelijke groeten.

Hello Lars, I would love to see these buildings for real, but for now I will have to enjoy looking at your picture.
Great and original point of view.
The sharpness is excellent.
I wonder what Fred and Ginger would make of this tribute if they were alive today?
Thanks for sharing, best wishes Jean.

Hei Lars
Veldig bra:)

Hi Lars,
great opportunity to compare those two different works of the same architect. This one is more popular or may be just known to me although I never seen it in reality yet.
It is very impressive although the one which you showed in Cambridge seems to be a larger complex.
I bet it was quite a challenge to think about correcting the perspective here... What is supposed to be straight here :)
Brilliant architect and great reportage,
