Photographer's Note

I found this old photo and decided to scan it and upload it because since I'm on TE I didn't see a photo of this place..And I have some really nice memories from this little town on the Black Sea coast..

The Basilica (Church of St Sophia or the Old Bishopric) in Nessebar is one of the impressive old buildings in Old Nessebar, and originates back in the late 4th century AD. The building we see today was finished in the early 9th century AD. It is a testament to the power of the church that the basilica was actually part of the bishop's residence and not the town cathedral.

Nesebar (Bulgarian: Несебър, Nesebăr, Thracian: Menebria, Greek: Μεσημβρια, Mesimvria, previously known as Mesembria) is an ancient city and a major seaside resort on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria, located in Nesebar municipality, Burgas Province. Often referred to as the "Pearl of the Black Sea" and "Bulgaria's Dubrovnik", Nesebar is a rich city-museum defined by more than three millennia of ever-changing history.

Its abundance of historic buildings prompted UNESCO to include Nesebar in its list of World Heritage Sites in 1983.
