Photographer's Note

Dear friends,
best wishes to all of you. May 2009 be filled with joy, happiness and a good health for you, your family and friends.

I finish this year (a slow one for me) with a picture from my region with my favourite mill on it. I hope you enjoy it and I hope we can enjoy each others work in the years to come.

What you see here is the Schellemolen. It was built in 1867 on the place where previously stood a wooden standardmill and remained operational until 1963. In 1971, it was then bought by the province West-Vlaanderen and restored in 1975-77. Since this restoration, the wings swiftly turn in the wind again during the summer months. In 1975, the mill became a protected monument.

The canal in front is the "Damse Vaart" or canal Bruges - Sluis. It was Napoleon who ordered the realization of this canal which was started in 1810 but was never completely finished. It was dug out by Spanish prisoners of war.
