THE CATHEDRAL OF OUR LADY (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal) was built 1352 and 1521, when the construction was abandonned with one tower unfishined. It's built in northern Gothic style.

THE GROENPLAATS is the big square on the southside of the Cathedral. Originally this was called the "Groen Kerkhof" (Green Churchyard), in the Middle Ages this was Antwerp's cemetery. Now it is a popular meeting place with lots of bars and restaurants.

A TRANSEPT is the "horizontal" line in the cross that makes the ground plan of a tradtional catholic church. This line usually runs from north to south. The black tower you see behind it marks the middle of the church.
