Photographer's Note
Kohlmarkt, Vienna, Austria.
Aside from this classic (or clichιd) view of the domed entryway to the Imperial Palace complex of the Hofburg, the Kohlmarkt is best known as Vienna's most elegant shopping street. The mixture of architectural styles is similar to that of the Graben nearby, but the general atmosphere is low-key, as if the street were consciously deferring to the showstopper dome at the far end. The composers Haydn and Chopin lived in houses on the street and, indeed, the Kohlmarkt lingers in the memory when flashier streets have faded.
We were on our way to Australia, so Vienna was a rather eccentric stop-over, barely into the journey at all, but a welcome new place for me. Shot on the old Canon T90 film camera and scanned on a Nikon film scanner.

Hello Will,
You're perfectly excused for mistaking Austria for Australia. There is a lot of confusion also with Iran and Iraq, or Niger and Nigeria ;-).
Seriously, this is a nice blue hour photo with a green Hofburg and brown faηades on the sides. I like the three yellow stars and the large blue glasses. Lots of colours for this late hour.

Bonjour Will,
J'aime beaucoup les couleurs de cette photo nocturne. J'aime surtout le beau vert fluo sur le bβtiment en arriθre plan ainsi que son dτme. Un bel effet entonnoir qui donne de la profondeur.

Lots of noise and blur, but it does get the atmosphere across. What I like most are the star effects of the lantern lights. The (a)potheke sign is a bit funny, first I read it as 'potheke'...what is a potheke!?

This is a good old one. I've never been there, but I have the feeling it's a beautiful city. I like it in the blue hour, that dome is great and you got nice details on the street. The exposure is very good also.

Long shutter speed setting and high ISO make so fantatsic and also nostalgic image as such. Snow shaped lights are very very attractive and do the best accnet in this masterful image.

Another beauty from the times when film was still king. Now, when digital rules, I sometimes think dusk photography will never be the same. How did you take it? Did you use a tripod or very high ISO film (I'm looking at it on a rather dismal monitor and can't tell)?
Even though it's a summer shot it seems very appropriate to the current season, especially the street lights which look like stars. :-)
