Photographer's Note

Located about 40 miles (65 km) from the northern coast of the Honduras lie the Bay Islands. Of this group of islands, Roatan is the largest and most developed for tourism. Roatan is about 40 miles (65 km) in length but only 4 miles (2.5 km) wide at its widest point. The island has a mountainous backbone and is totally surrounded by coral reefs. One of the finest points about Roatan is this reef, which offers one of the most spectacular diving and snorkeling experiences in the Western Caribbean.

But enough about what one can see under water while visiting Roatan. One of the highlights of a visit to this lovely island for those of use who prefer to stay on land is Sherman's Iguana Farm. Sherman's Iguana Farm was established about 20 years ago as a preserve for these creatures. While iguanas are supposed to be a protected species, many locals still like to kill these animals for their meat. Thanks to the efforts of the Sherman family, the iguana is not on the endangered species list. The farm is home to about 2700 iguanas who roam freely about the property.
