The citadel has the name of the Swiss architect Laferriθre who was in charge of the works. It is situated at 28 km southeast of the city of Cap-Haοtien at 836 meters in Milot. General Christophe started the foundations of the fortress. The construction lasted about 15 years and it required a workforce from 10 000 to 20 000 laborers. The walls have a thickness from 5 to 6 m of wide, its longitudinal walls reach 940 m.
