Photographer's Note
I was walking somewhere in Hanoi when I saw these boys playing video games. I walked past the doorway but I knew there and then that I had to take a photo. Got the camera out, took a few steps back so that I could see them again and click. I had to crop this photo somewhat since I must have been leaning a little so as not to be too conspicuous. The photo that was developed commercially was overexposed, so I did some brightening of the scanned image, got rid of some blemishes and lowered the green tonality. What struck me about this scene is how children around the world have become more sedentary, less creative and have lost to a great degree the closeness with the adults and their familiarity with people's lore- the nation's stories and beliefs, the things one picks up by listening to the elders. Where are the elders here?

Proof that kids are the same all over the world. I think your shot is excellent; good composition with the kids at one end and the tv at the other. I'd have liked it if the kids seemed a little more engrossed in their video game instead of looking at you, but its still a good shot.
Cheers,
Ben

Hi Klaudio,
Not the best of quality tech wise, I agree... But the situation is priceless and well worth capturing!
Many stories to be extracted from this image... I notice the different attentions from the boys!

Nice note and interesting photo. Yes, it seems good or bad in spite of this country's long wars with two western powers, it is in fact becoming westernized.
Best regards,

Hi Klaudio !
Excellent scene and moment, showing us that the kids are the same all around the world. Beautifully composed and great control of light. i think that it would be better if the kids were not looking at you. Overall a great photo!

Hi Klaudio. An interesting shot, this one, and a good note to go with it. I agree with your point about the absence of elders, but at least it's nice to see them looking alert and watching with their mates, not on their own watching tv like zombies as so many kids do these days. I like the aquamarine wall here, and the way it links to the floor and the screens, and holds the shot together. The other details of the room are interesting too.

Hi Klaudio,
looking at your pictures i chose this one, it΄s different than others, very good daily life scene with too much TVs and playstations and yes, no elders.. (however that΄s exactly what kids love:)
Have a nice day!

I'm so glad I stumbled across this photo Klaudio. It's truly one of the most original and most interesting photos I've seen posted on TE. Maybe I'm biased because I was hooked on video games as kid as well, so this photo has some special feeling for me. Interesting to see how kids on the opposite side of the globe, with a completely different culture, share the past time. Thanks for the post.
Regards,
Ryan

Hi Klaudio,
Great catch! It is impressive the addiction screens create in humans, specially in kids! Videogames, mobile phones, PDAs, TV, PStations, Computers............

Hello Klaudio,
I decided to browse your photgallery and found this shot.
Very good pithy, thought-provoking photo! the children seem to be "tied" to these TVs, and not only with the visible wires.
As a teacher I can say with certainty: all sorts of electronic games (unfortunately, mainly violent, agressive games) have become the main hindrance for children (poor memory, Attention Deficit Disorder) and in the teaching process. I've been teaching quite long, and it's a pity to see that a little child has been gradually turning into a "continuation" or, rather, appendage of technical devices.
best regards,
Elena
