Photographer's Note
In Saigon, in a quiet alley I saw this gentleman, possibly a scholar once, in deep concentration, maybe calculating the meagre takings at the end of the day. Still up at a late hour, illuminated by the naked light bulb, he seemed to embody so much that makes us human: determination, self-secrifice, hope. I didn't use the flash in order not to arouse him from his task. I remember thinking that at a very low shutter speed I was being most optimistic and I had to act quickly before the moment was lost. I am happy with the effect, helped along with some contrasting and highlighting of the scanned image.

Very impressive, Klaudio! The vital details of the visage, hands and clothing emerge tellingly from the darkness into the light of the globe. He's tremendously absorbed. The single lamp reveals just enough detail and colour. It worked very well. A good scan, too.

Hi Klaudio,
I'm not sure how I missed this one!
It's scenes like this that I love in Vietnam, the quiet corners where life goes on.
You've done really well to capture this evocative image: the warm light is superb (I even like the green fluorescent light in the corner).
Cheers
Brian

Hi Klaudio,
After you visit to my last photo, I decided to pay a visit to your gallery. And this photo just hit me! I don't really know why, but there is a feeling of peacefullness that comes to me when I'm looking at it. Like a "aaaaaah!" very gentle, very calm. The same feeling when it is dark, except the light of a candle. No sound. You stopped a moment. Precious.
I love the green shade in the background. I suggest though that you "clone" the little white spot under the table.
Thank you!
Claire

Hi Klaudio, my first visit to your gallery and a clear oversight on my part. A million thanks that you didn't use the dreaded flash which would have destroyed the beautiful atmosphere that you have crafted here. The single, naked lightbulb contributes perfectly to the meagre environment in which this man works. A superb exposure. Stephen

You've captured a great mood here, Klaudio. To me there's something of the allure and mystery of the east in this simple scene. I like the darkness surrounding him, and the shadows against the wall. One can almost hear the crickets down by the river and feel the sultry night. Great shot! Regards,
Ryno
