Photographer's Note
This is a real oldie.

O Mon is a small countryside community in the rice fields of the Mekong delta, northwest from Can Tho.
Walking around the village and paddies, we caught these two boys in a rather private moment. I think they were as surprised as we were.
After we'd laughed off any uneasy feelings, the idea of me taking a picture was something they found completely hilarious (obviously), but they didn't seem to mind, so I just could not resist.
It did take a while before I decided to publish it, though. Over the years the picture has become a kind of document from the (good?) old days. So, for old times' sake...here I go...and I hope nobody will mind.
I wonder what's happened to these guys. I sure hope life has been kind to them and wish them all the best!

All right, for TE 18 years is reasonably old, but... ;-)
A sight like this could probably still be found in rural areas of Vietnam. The changes that have occurred in the country since 2000 are mainly superficial, concerning the big cities and tourist areas. For millions of people life just goes on. It's not a beautiful photo in the sense many members of the site strive for, but I guess it teaches us something about the world. And Rod Stewart provided you with a suitable title.

Congratulations on your 18 years with TE! A superb daily life scene from the Mekong Delta. Punchy light contrasts with good graphism. The 2 small boys seem to be enjoying the recesses of the 2 washing tubs constructions. Tfs!

Grappig en ook heel schattig!
John vraagt zich af of er ondertussen in Vietnam veel veranderd is. Ik ben zeker van wel. Maar het zal nog wel mogelijk zijn om dergelijke taferelen te vinden. Enkel staan er nu een tiental andere fotografen naast jou.

Hello Benny, 17 years is not so old after we saw here Gert's pictures. But the scan from analogue so it means the difference with the digital we have now, Nice scene with these laughing kids. Your description reminded me the kids in Burma, how they laughed seeing me with the camera.
