Photographer's Note

Although I had been to Bangkok a number of times, I had never visited the Damnoen Saduak floating market, about an hour outsdie of the city prior to this trip. I wasn't really missing much. The vendors sell all pretty much the same trinkets that can be bought on Khao Sahrn Road, Patpong or any of the other tourist markets. Oh, they do sell some fruit too. Add to that canals full of boats laden not with goods, but with tourist and you get an overall dissappointing SE Asian experience. To top it all of, when you take the tours, as we did, you don't arrive there until the sun is good and high and the light is just gawdawful.

Anyways, all that being said, I am pleased enough with this shot. This woman was just coming out of a dark covered area, and the light was not yet pounding down upon her. I think she was a local, but I am not sure exactly of her role in the market: Her boat was empty. I was glad to get this when I did, her face was still shaded from the sun, but there was light reflecting up from the water. Moments later, she would have been fully out into the awful light.
