During our one day visit to Busan we saw much evidence of the phenomenal economic growth South Korea has experienced in recent years. Here a few skyscrapers can be seen reaching for the sky.

South Koreans call this growth the 'Miracle on the Han River' which refers to South Korea's highly accelerated export-fueled economic growth, including rapid industrialisation, technological achievement, education boom, exponential rise in living standards, rapid urbanisation, skyscraper boom, modernisation and the successful hosting of the 1988 Summer Olympics and the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Although the term 'Miracle on the River Han', specifically refers to Seoul through which the River Han runs there was ample evidence in Busan of the rapid economic growth that has transformed the country from the ashes of the Korean war to a wealthy and highly developed country today with a globally influential trillion dollar economy and well-known multinational conglomerates such as Samsung, LG, Hyundai-Kia.
