In Tokyo, one of the last thatched roof could be spotted from shinkansen windows until late '90.
In Busan '73, an old thatched roof was seen just up the hill from Busan station.

And the Busan harbor.
In '73, immigration and customs inspection at Shimonoseki terminal, Busan's Japanese counterpart was as severe as we read in 1930's novel, not on us Japanese but only on those Korean passengers. In '73, most of them were katsugiya women carrying heavy burden on their backs each and arguing energeticly against the inspection officers.
