Photographer's Note

I was taking pictures in Moscow's Pushkin Museum when I spotted this woman and her friend doing the same thing. It occurred to me that they would make an interesting contrast to Rembrandt's Portrait of an Old Woman - Age versus Youth - so I stretched my Russian vocabulary far enough to get them to pose for me.

I cut out the other girl in PP, because when I saw the images later, I realized that, quite unconsciously, this one had positioned herself in a pose almost identical to the one in the painting.

Technical: The lighting is not ideal. Here is one case where a fill flash on her eyes would have helped, but of course that's not allowed in the museum. (Nor tripods.) So I played with lighting and levels as best I could (though I'm still not completely satisfied) and cropped here and there.
