Photographer's Note
On the streets of Bhaktapur in the Kathmandu Valley, dozens of women can be seen sifting grains in large woven pans. This allows for the separation of the grains when harvested from the husks and other unwanted material. The grains were being placed in the large sacks behinds, I assume for safe storage in readiness for the cold winter months ahead. Bhaktapur was a place of simplicity, peace and tranquility. It was beautiful to watch the locals cheerfully tending to their work and carrying out daily activities. It was rewarding to venture further than the large tourist crowds gathered in the main town square and visit some of the fringes of the settlement where the rural and urban boundary merged.

Hello Matthew
Great daily life scene. Much detail to been seen but I am also attracted by the woman's attention to detail - perhaps she has found a small pebble.
I have a theme for this photo.
Thanks, Marlene

Hi Matthew,
Very good daily life image, a life I once know very well. I had to help my mother do some of these chores. Excellent details, I like the light that reflected on her face. Even though we don't see her whole face, but we can still see the concentration and calmness in her feature and the sense of peace within her mind. Very nice. I enjoyed it very much.

Hello Matt,
I imagine this scene has not changed much during the better part of 10 millennia, ever since einkorn was first farmed around Hasan Dag (Southeastern Turkey), and a little later in Jericho, now in Israel. I like the photo and note, elements of the rich photojournalism you always give us.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hi Matthew!
Really enjoying your gallery, and this one is wonderful! I love the way her hair is backlit, and the way the light is spilling on to the grain. Perfect clarity and a nice candid photo! I loved Bhaktapur; one of my favorite places! Here is one of mine of a similiar vane, but does not have your gorgeous light. Great work, warm regards,
Steve
