Photographer's Note

During the hike up, one has to take it really slow due to the thin air and steep climb. This is taken yet during my many rests, just before reaching the summit of Kala Patthar. The summit is just below the peak of Pumori with many little player flags and a person is walking up toward it. Kala Patthar, meaning 'black rock' in Nepali and Hindi, as you can see the rock here are really dark even with the light shining directly on them.

Kala Patthar is a mountain in the Nepalese Himalayas. It appears as a big brown bump below the impressive south face of Pumori (7,161 m/23,494 ft). Many trekkers in the region of Mount Everest will attempt to summit Kala Patthar, since it provides the most accessible point to view Mt. Everest from base camp to peak. The views of Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse are spectacular from almost anywhere on Kala Patthar as seen on my previous posts.
