Photographer's Note

Exploring the ancient city of Bhaktapur during the joyful Deepwali festival was a great experience. I took this photo from a lofty pagoda which watched over the surrounding market place. This was not a market of junk and trinkets, but rather traditional wares, local produce, fruit, vegetables, grains and spices. It was comforting to see that places like this still exist. I liked the colour of the balloons and the saris. A lot to see at every turn. Bhaktapur reached after a 40 minute taxi ride through the intrinsically interesting streets of Kathmandu. Once a city in its own right, it now could be considered an outer suburb of Kathmandu itself. On a clear day, one can see the Himalayas on the horizon from this place.
