Photographer's Note

The main terrace of the Pagoda may be approached from all four directions by covered stairways. This is the view toward the east from Pagoda Road, Each stairway is guarded by two, large, white chinthe(s) holding a sitting Buddha in its mouth. There is no date available for the start of construction for the original structure. The Shwemawdaw Pagoda is the tallest in all of Myanmar at 114 metres. It rests on an octagonal base, each side of 55 metres. Geo coordinates in Google Earth are: 17.20.12.87N, 96.29.48.52E, with elevation at 29 metres.
