Photographer's Note

The last of my series on Bidayuh's Gawai Festival at Sadir Village. The lady was obliging when I asked if I could take her photographs, she was not posing or smiling but just quietly going about her daily work because it was annual event and one of 2 biggest festivals for her people. Life is basically simple as most of them work on farms such as rice for self consumption. Therefore I give it a title for this post. I took 3 of her photos and will be preparing prints soon to be given to her when I next visit this village again (and I would ask for her name).

Some people have asked me where they could buy the mat as seen standing against the wall. These are very essential mats used in every house of the village, even on the common verandah. Many household items used by Bidayuh people are made from bamboo, a material readily sourced from the hilly jungle around them. Thank you for viewing. Cheers, bill
