Photographer's Note

Over the past several months, I have viewed many TE galleries and shared my own photos. The interesting question, especially for new TE members, about 'how to compose a shot' can be asked many times and every one will give a different answer.

In this shot, I found the memorial here quite a challenge to frame the photo. I walked around it for a while and decided to shoot from here, trying to align the palm with the red posts. You can see the palm stem rising between the red posts, my intention. The red colored memorial frame against the green plants behind. I tried to shoot from very low angle but the view looked a bit odd, so I gave up.

This is a memorial funded and built by a group of people who shared common surname called 'XU' clan and they had arranged for a convention of 'XU' clan from worldwide associations to gather in this town. The memorial was to recognise such an event. In Sibu, there are many such Chinese 'surname' clan associations, but 'Xu' is not the biggest grouping.

Thank you for viewing. Regards, Bill
