Photographer's Note

This was taken at an immigration checkpoint to enter Malaysia as I was heading for Limbang, a small town in the northern part of the state of Sarawak. I thought it would be nice to show this place but since I was traveling alone, my movement was very much restricted. The traffic was heavy with long queue as can be seen. I was looking at my side mirror when an idea struck. So I quickly pulled out my camera and waited until I was in a good position so that I can catch both sides of the checkpoints (Brunei and Sarawak) in one shot.
These checkpoints are usually very busy during weekends as a lot of Bruneians travel to Limbang to do their shopping. The exchange rate is favourable to them (1 Brunei dollar is equivalent to 2.30 Malaysian Ringgit), making things cheaper over there.
The other reason is the number of people going across the border to buy liquor and beer. These items are not sold in Brunei. However, the government allows non-muslims to bring in 2 litres of liquor and 12 cans of beer per person per entry. As the checkpoint is only half an hour drive from Bandar Seri Begawan so it is quite convenient for them to get their supply of liquor and beer. So if you are visiting Brunei and find it hard to go without a cool beer, then make sure you have your own supply.
The Brunei checkpoint is behind me you can see in the side mirror.

PP - slight cropping and sharpening.
