Photographer's Note

Located about halfway between Vientiane and Luang Prabang is Vang Vieng a small town on the Nam Song river surrounded by karst limestone mountains.

Karst topography is a landscape formed from the dissolution soluble rocks such as limestone, dolomite and gypsum. It is characterized by underground drainage systems with sinkholes, dolines and caves.

The karst mountains provide an attractive setting for climbing. Climbers are rewarded with great views of the karst landscape surrounded Vang Vieng.
