Photographer's Note

A traditional way of catching fish by beating the water surface repeatedly to drive fish into the net.

Simple yet a real piece of life as seen along a small river- at the confluence of Nam song river near a peaceful Ban Huay Pamoa village, about 15km south of Vang Vieng. I knew that I couldn't miss the chance to capture the moment as I didn't want that to pass me. I wanted to capture his activity and the beautiful green surroundings before it turned dark. On this particular calm late afternoon the reflections was really lovely with that clear flat water and seemed like nothing was disturbing this peacefulness and nothing was except for the soft sound of the caressing canoe followed by that loud bang!!

It's a great way to see how life is going on in rural Laos, and there are times I feel when the presence of people actually makes the riverscape seem emptier
But he did give me a sense of purpose, somehow.
