Photographer's Note

After carrying the sulfur blocks from the edge of the Kawah Ijen crater lake to the crest of the volcano, the collectors hammer the blocks to split them. So they can carry more in their baskets or in bags placed on trolleys.
More sulfur and more money ... even if the wages of this convict work may seem ridiculous ! On average, about ten euros a day.
