Photographer's Note

As the professional photographers clustered around the camel-watering holes at sunset, I wandered to the fairground's edges and the gypsy tents there. Most tourists avoid these outskirt tenements on account of the rather 'tenacious' friends quickly met there. But there are surprises.

There was a darkened tent with a TV and generator screening Bollywood movies for the nomads in from the desert - for a few rupees you could go in and watch the flick - maybe the only movie you might see that year. This poor little urchin just stayed outside, walked into the setting sun, and danced to the film's song... I followed her, called out and was going to give her some money so she could go in see the movie, but she ignored me and chose the sun instead.
