Photographer's Note

I hesitated to post that picture because of the difficult light. The pilgrims are taking a ritual bath in the sea by early morning.
Rameswaram is significant for many Hindus as a pilgrimage to Varanasi is considered to be incomplete without a pilgrimage to Rameswaram. The town is one of the holiest Char Dham sites (four divine sites). It is believed that, by took bath in this sea will vanish ones sins, and make them pure again, and mixing the ashes of the dead person in this sea will bring peace to the soul of the dead. Rameswaram is located on Pamban Island separated from mainland India by the Pamban channel and is about 40 kilometres from Mannar island, Sri Lanka. Rameswaram is the closest point from which to reach Sri Lanka from India. Source : wiki
