Photographer's Note

So I made it to Tibet - an impulsive decision to grab the train from Lanzhou to Lhasa brought me to this amazing place, where as you can see in the picture, religion is part of daily life. Monks are to be seen everywhere, doing their grocery shopping, walking around in their timeless burgondy gowns and yet, at the same time, strutting around the streets with cell phones in the present. I had seen a lot of counting in the monasteries, but this was the only time I've come across this foursome doing their "accounting" on the corner of a street near the Jokhang temple. Too bad the 4th monk fell off the picture a little bit. I was struck by the Tibetan custom of leaving money everwhere on every religious place, from sticking it to trees with butter to throwing it on the floor. Hope you enjoy the picture - if only to give you an idea of why Tibet is a must-visit!
